On the occasion of his 35th birthday, Manchester City English Club sent a special message to its former Algerian star Riyad Mahrez, sharing a video clip showcasing his most notable goals with the team during his tenure between 2018 and 2023, during which he won several titles with “the Citizens,” including the English Premier League, FA Cup, and UEFA Champions League.
Meanwhile, German club Werder Bremen announced the cancellation of its planned promotional tour in the United States scheduled for next May, due to tense political and social conditions, in addition to sporting and economic factors, according to the club’s CEO Klaus Filbry.
The tour was scheduled to include Minnesota, but recent violent events in Minneapolis, which witnessed the killing of two people by state authorities, formed a decisive factor in the decision. The German official also expressed concerns about the new strict restrictions for entering the United States, which may require visitors to disclose their social media activities over the past five years, creating uncertainty for the club regarding its players.
Filbry added that the club’s sporting situation in the German league also played a role in the decision, as Werder Bremen currently occupies the 16th position, placing the team in the relegation playoff matches that coincide with the planned tour period, increasing economic and organizational risks.
It is worth noting that Riyad Mahrez currently plays for Al-Ahli Saudi Club and is contracted with them until June 30, 2027, while Manchester City continues its journey in the English Premier League in pursuit of titles.
