Founding Day: National Celebrations of a Rich History
As part of the national celebrations taking place in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, diverse events were held on the occasion of #FoundingDay, which is celebrated annually on February 22. This day serves as a reminder of the founding of the first Saudi state by Imam Mohammed bin Saud in 1727 AD.
The streets of Saudi cities and villages were adorned with national flags and green lights, while various cultural and entertainment events were organized to celebrate this precious national occasion. The General Entertainment Authority announced the organization of diverse artistic and cultural performances across different regions of the Kingdom.
Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Riyadh Region, stated in a press release: “Founding Day is a great occasion during which we remember our rich history and draw inspiration from it to continue building and developing under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and his faithful Crown Prince, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz.”
Prince Faisal added: “Founding Day embodies the depth of the Kingdom’s historical roots and reinforces values of belonging and loyalty in the hearts of new generations.”
Statistics indicate that celebrations of this day witnessed wide participation from various segments of Saudi society. The number of participants in events held in the capital Riyadh alone exceeded two million people during the past three days.
Data released by the Ministry of Culture also showed a notable increase in sales of heritage and handicraft products during the celebration period, recording a 35% increase compared to the same period last year.
Dr. Abdullah bin Nasser Al-Sudhan, Professor of History at King Saud University, said: “Founding Day is an opportunity to highlight the historical and civilizational heritage of the Kingdom and enhance awareness of the importance of preserving this heritage for future generations.”
Al-Sudhan added: “This occasion also reflects the extent of development and growth that the Kingdom has witnessed since its founding and the prestigious position it has reached at both regional and international levels.”
It is worth mentioning that the celebration of Founding Day comes as part of a series of national events taking place in the Kingdom, which aim to strengthen national identity and deepen citizens’ sense of belonging to their homeland.
At the conclusion of the celebrations, the Ministry of Culture affirmed its continued organization of events and programs that highlight the history and heritage of the Kingdom, contributing to enhancing national awareness and pride in belonging to the beloved homeland.
