On Wednesday, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia celebrated Founding Day, which falls on February 22 each year, dating back to 1727 CE when Imam Mohammed bin Saud established the First Saudi State, which lasted until 1818 CE.
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz expressed his pride and honor in the history and symbols of the First Saudi State in a statement on this occasion, while Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman affirmed the depth of the Kingdom’s history and civilization, congratulating the Saudi people on this occasion.
The celebrations, which lasted for several days, included fireworks displays in various regions of the Kingdom, as well as drone shows and military parades. Many regions and cities witnessed massive popular celebrations.
Founding Day comes to affirm the close bonds between citizens and leadership, according to statements by Saudi officials. This occasion was first celebrated in 2022 after the Saudi monarch issued a royal decree to adopt February 22 of each year as a day to commemorate the founding of the Saudi state.
This occasion provides an opportunity to highlight the Kingdom’s rich history and its pivotal role in the region, as well as to affirm the continuity of the Saudi state over three centuries since its establishment by Imam Mohammed bin Saud in mid-1727 CE, corresponding to the second of the month of Sha’ban in 1139 AH.
