Disappearance of Serbian Footballer Aleksandar Savić in Riyadh Occupies Public Opinion
Two weeks have passed since the disappearance of Serbian international footballer Aleksandar Savić (28 years old) in the Saudi capital Riyadh, while security authorities continue search operations without conclusive results so far.
Official information from the security spokesman of the Ministry of Interior stated that Savić arrived in the Kingdom on March 15 to join a local club, before being reported missing on March 21 after leaving his hotel in the Al-Olaya area without returning. The player left all his personal belongings in his hotel room.
According to preliminary investigations, surveillance cameras recorded Savić’s last movements near a commercial complex north of the capital on the evening of his disappearance. The concerned Saudi club—which preferred to withhold its name—stated in an official comment: “We work continuously with relevant security authorities to locate the player, while providing all records related to his visit.”
For his part, the Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the Kingdom declared in an official statement: “We thank the Saudi authorities for their serious search efforts and assure Savić’s supporters that the case receives the highest levels of follow-up.” Sources close to the player’s family also indicated his mother arrived in Riyadh today to participate in search operations.
Notably, Savić ranks among the most prominent midfielders in the Serbian league, having scored 12 goals and provided 17 assists across 85 matches with Partizan Belgrade, according to UEFA statistics. His disappearance coincides with increasing numbers of foreign players joining the Saudi Pro League, which currently hosts 138 international players from 42 different countries.
Security authorities continue questioning witnesses and analyzing technical data, while the motives and circumstances of the disappearance remain unclear pending new developments in the case, which has garnered extensive media coverage at both local and international levels.
